Performance Evaluation and Kinetic Modeling of Modified Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) for Domestic Wastewater Treatment

In an effort to mitigate the contamination of the river in DKI Jakarta, this study implemented a modified MBBR using K3 Kaldnes medium to treat domestic effluent. The kinetic model and the MBBR unit were compared in terms of the treatment of residential effluent at hydraulic retention times (HRT) of 0.75, 2, 3, and 4. Initial wastewater characterisation, reactor setup, seeding, acclimatization, and reactor operation were all part of the study procedure. The highest performance was achieved at 4 hours of HRT, with 83.78% COD removal efficiency, 78.89% BOD removal efficiency, and 83.92% TSS removal efficiency.
